This is another gem. It has the most beautiful gardens and typical Calabrian flora as well as a Baroque 18th century palace. It is just before you get to the historic town of Stignano on the Jasmine coast close to Riace. This was the home of the Italian philosopher Tommaso Campanella. You can see his marble statue in the centre of this pretty historic town.
An example of Baroque architecture
Today the Baroque palace is popular for weddings. It also helps with the upkeep of this incredible wonder. A perfect example of Baroque architecture in magnificent grounds. It is not only a perfect place for that special day, but for anyone to visit just to see its greenery.
A fairy-tale wedding location. Many couples choose to have their wedding here. See more about southern weddings here and watch the video. I was only walking in the area when I saw a sign and followed it. I could see these gardens from beyond and had to explore more. See more about the villa here.
Villa Caristo and its gardens
The owner welcomes guests to look around. He couldn’t have been more welcoming and proud to show me this hidden place. It was like I had gone back in time. I really didn’t want to leave.
There is also an annex where they have beautiful rooms for the wedding guests or tourists. This is a perfect place for someone who would like to spend a few days in tranquillity surrounded by nature. The rooms are very elegant. They keep in with the style of the rest of the palace.
It belongs to the Caristo family, once a wealthy noble family. You feel like you are in another world in this wonderful place, almost like stepping back in time. I recommend a tour around the gardens. You can also taste local products from their farm and they do cookery classes. This place is definitely for nature lovers.
